Moringa! ……not a film character but a tree!

Yesterday I went to the local market gadding about looking out for some unique vegetable that I could buy and cook. After walking for a bit I reached my regular vegetable vendor Ram Prasad who usually sells leafy vegetables and I found a small cane basket full of tiny white flowers tucked away slyly inContinue reading Moringa! ……not a film character but a tree! →

Sometime back my friend KD mentioned about an eatery at Dadar, which serves the most amazing Malvani cuisine. A foodie that I am, I decided to visit this place called Chaitanya, which was highly recommended. And so a drive from Andheri to Dadar was planned to enjoy dinner at this simple quaint eatery along withContinue reading Chaitanya by The Walke’s →

Today was a very close friends birthday….  Age should not be discussed …. She is yet young at heart…. So an impromptu lunch was decided to celebrate Rakhee’s birthday. At 7:00 am my mobile was beeping with messages on the Crazy girls chat which has Sheetal, Rakhee and me on it and lunch at aContinue reading And the party is over ….. →

Breakfast today is a very traditional one from Karwar .... it’s called kalayle phovu... very simple to make and extremely unique to taste ... this has been one of my favourites. Even today when I visit my mum and she asks me what I would want to eat ....without a second thought this is my first preference It’s the most simple breakfast dish to make 2 cups of fresh coconut grated to which 4 tsp of sugar is added, salt to taste and a 2tbsp special masala (recipe of which is given at the end) mix this really well and add 4 cups of patla poha and throughly mix it with your hands Heat 1 tbsp of coconut oil and sauté 2 finely chopped onions till pink and soft and then add the mixed poha and sauté for a minute or two and serve hot Here is the recipe for the poha masala Ingredients: Coriander seeds 1 cup Fennel seeds 1/2 cup Cumin seeds 1/4 cup Cloves 4 Cinnamon 2 inch Chili powder Method: Dry roast the above ingredients and grind to a fine powder. Measure the powder in cups. Add same amount of chili powder to it and mix well and store. Use as required
Crab curry for lunch today.... and a simple dal, rice and aloo subzi for me! When I was little I remember my dad once getting a sack full of black crabs apparently very tasty and then those almost 100 live crabs one by one would be removed and cleaned up and sauté while dad and the house hold staff would be cleaning ... mum with Meera her kitchen help would be prepping up for the curry .... and then at night a feast of crab curry and rice would be served to all family and friends invited ..... miss those days dad
These amazing, sweet, crisp from the outside and soft from inside Puri’s are called Bhoplyache Gharge. Served with homemade ghee It’s basically boiled yellow pumpkin mashed, jaggery, nutmeg powder, rice flour added to wheat flour and kneaded to a firm dough from which Puri’s are made These reminded me of the banana buns we make in Karwar. Quiet similar in texture just the difference in taste due to the bananas... every bite reminded me of my Kaki who made them for me as a child ...
Piyush is a cool drink for the summers... made with curd, buttermilk and shrikhand. This drink is a great option for people who are fasting as it keeps you full and hunger pangs at bay I’m not fasting today but I had this amazing drink which is one of my favourite at a small eatery called Prakash at Dadar A must try drink
